Arise is seeking a Technical Writer.  The Technical Writer will work closely with the development, technical operations, data services, product management, and business units for the writing, editing, and producing in various output formats for technical and functional documentation/content for products, software, and technologies. The documentation the Technical Writer will develop and deliver may include user guides, process documentation, technical diagrams, or other end-user deliverables. This person must have excellent research skills, must be able to organize his/her ideas, and be able to translate technical terms into text that any reader can understand. The position requires strong technical writing skills, knowledge of structured authoring, crisp and clear business communication, flexibility, and dedication to delivering high-quality, useful, and usable content. The successful Technical Writer will be a self-motivated team player who takes initiative, easily grasps technical concepts, and deals effectively with subject matter experts.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes functional specs, interviews SMEs, and works with demo or prototypes to understand product functionality
  • Individually develops and updates technical documentation/content adhering to format, content and style guidelines
  • Builds and manages information deliverables
  • Determine and apply appropriate levels of editorial treatment to project materials
  • Accept editorial input from management and peers, and incorporate such edits
  • Review documentation produced by other team members
  • The Technical Writer is responsible for planning, creating, and producing of written documentation for systems, products, softwares, services, and technologies
  • Maintain internal technical reference documentation, including configuration guides, data library, technical release notes, context-sensitive help mappings, process and procedure guides, and system requirements
  • Create and maintain documentation templates, style guide, and source code
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently and meet all documentation deliverable deadlines
  • Research and evaluate new documentation tools and methods
  • The Technical Writer must work closely with end users, subject matter experts, developers, other stakeholders to gather information needed for documentation
  • Complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
  • Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material
  • Other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

  • Proven technical writing and editing skills
  • Superior command of the English language including rules and usage
  • Strong research skills including gathering and analyzing data from multiple sources (subject matter experts, project managers) to develop content and training materials
  • Superb interpersonal communication skills, particularly where technical information must be conveyed in a clear and convincing way
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment with cross functional peers to support deadlines
  • Working knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), preferably in an Agile development environment
  • Skilled in image capture, cropping, and placement using Snag It or similar tool
  • Self-starter, competent at working independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong investigative/research/interview orientation and skills
  • Highly motivated individual able to grasp complex technologies, tools or knowledge and learn quickly
  • Experience with Microsoft Toolset (Office, Powerpoint, Publisher, Visio)
  • Proven ability to self-edit work effectively as well as to write clear, concise and comprehensive documentation on complex, multi-level technical issues, including storyboard creation and development
  • Excellent organization, strong written/verbal communications and writing styles with an eye for detail
  • Ability to grasp complex software, learn quickly and work within tight deadlines
  • Degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Technical Communications, Computer Science or related field with an emphasis on technical documentation  or equivalent years of relevant experience
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a technical writing role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of technical writing
